News Release: Sea Level Rise Workshop on Tuesday, May 8, 2018

ENCINITAS, CA – In an effort to inform the public about issues affecting our City’s coastal corridor, the City of Encinitas Coastal Zone Management Program will host a sea level rise workshop on Tuesday, May 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Encinitas City Hall. A panel of six renowned guest speakers will each give a presentation regarding current research on coastal processes, bluff mapping and erosion, flood mapping, and coastal resilience to sea level rise.

Speakers include:

Katherine Weldon, Coastal Resources Manager

Crystal Najera, Climate Action Plan Program Administrator

Laura Engemen, Program Director at the Center for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation, Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Bob Guza, Professor Emeritus for Integrative Oceanography Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Adam Young, Project Researcher for Integrative Oceanography Division at Scripps Institution of Oceanography

Darryl Hatheway, Senior Coastal Scientist for AECOM Water

A roundtable discussion will be held at the end to answer questions and discuss possible next actions to assess coastal erosion and sea level rise. Coffee and appetizers will be provided.
